Alana completed Honours in Applied Mathematics at Adelaide University in 2003. In 2004 she moved to Brisbane where she joined the Centre for Water in the Minerals Industry as a full-time research assistant. Alana worked as a research assistant at CWiMI from April 2003- March 2004. Her main role was was to develop a simulation model for water flow around a generic mine site which incorporated constraints imposed on water reuse by contaminants. It is intended that this model will be used as a basis for a network model of mine sites and other water users connected by a pipeline.
Alana is currently a PhD student jointly in the departments of Mathematics & Statistics and Botany, at the University of Melbourne and is a MASCOS (Centre of Excellence for Mathematics and Statistics of Complex Systems) PhD scholar. Her research interests include modelling and control of stochastic ecological systems, optimal monitoring, adaptive management and robust optimisation.
